Wales Interactive is riding the FMV gravy train until it runs out of rail, and its next project – psychological thriller I Saw Black Clouds, created with Ghost Dog Films – now has a PlayStation 4 release date: 30th March. The game will be playable on the PS5 courtesy of backwards compatibility, although a native next-gen release will follow “shortly”. There’s no word of a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade.
“After the unexpected death of a close friend, Kristina returns to her hometown looking for answers, only to unearth a string of dark secrets,” the blurb describes. “I Saw Black Clouds is an interactive psychological thriller with supernatural elements and branching storylines.” You can check out a teaser trailer embedded above, in case you missed it earlier in the year.

I too am looking fwd to this game. For PS5, I doubt beyond load times you’d see anything. But that’s going to be true for many other FMV games as well.
Does an FMV game really need a native next-gen update? 🤔
@Arugula 4k video maybe? thats the only other thing i can think of
I'm in the middle of playing Quantum Break on Series X and it is half game half Film and bizarrely quite difficult to watch the film part at times. Not sure what it is but possibly the frame rate is lower than usual film. Whatever it is, sometimes its difficult to watch without feeling nauseous (particularly the fight scenes). Wonder if that could be a difference? Higher frame rate on the video for PS5?
I am interested in this but if there is a native ps5 version I will have to hold out if there isnt going to be a free upgrade
I've been recently getting into their previous FMV games, and this one is looking interesting.
The problem with these type of games are their short “playtime”. I mean, I like movies, and the concept of interactive movies, but I’m not paying any more than £4 for an experience that will likely last 2 hours at most, and I don’t think they can sustain themselves at that price. Not with any degree of production value anyway.
@Paranoimia
I suspect that they may have wanted some experience on the tech, perhaps they even needed to do this to get a dev kit, and they judged that, if they have a different version with a new trophy list, they might have trophy hunters double dip.
I am interested in this. I feel like FMV has a way to be relevant, and yet no one's ever 'stuck the landing' on it. I've played some, and enjoyed some, but I keep waiting for one to come out that makes me think "Oh yeah! That's how you do it!"
@StonyKL Don't know for sure, but I think most gaming nausea can be traced back to framerate problems. Either too slow, or too inconsistent for our brains to recognize it as reality. I've always heard 60 fps is the magic number to fool the mind, and anything less has a chance to cause nausea, and the farther down from 60 and the more inconsistent, the greater the chance.
Will this have Ray Tracing and 120fps?
Looks interesting.
Those graphics and animations are almost as good as Naughty Dogs'.
I've been on there website and there's no mention of a PS5 version.
@thefourfoldroot Yeah that is up too you but if enough people buy then there must be a market or they would not bother.
@LordSteev How is it possible i dont get sick with movies then they do 24 FPS? I get really sick from dark games where i cant see clearly.
@Flaming_Kaiser I don't know.
